How does the OJT program work?
OJT credits are earned for paid work "On-the-Job". Credits are earned based on the number of hours a student works per week. OJT grades are based on quarterly evaluations submitted by the student's employment supervisor, timely submission of required paperwork, including monthly time cards, regular attendance of OJT meetings/workshops and regular attendance in on-campus classes.
Here are the basic work requirements:
Students who work at least 5 hours/week may be scheduled for 1 "off-campus" OJT period each day.
Students who work at least 10 hours/week may be scheduled for up to 2 "off-campus" OJT period each day.
Students working at least 15 hours/week may be scheduled for up to 3 "off-campus" OJT periods each day.
Students working at least 20 hours/week may be scheduled for up to 4 "off-campus" OJT periods each day
OJT hours are NOT cumulative throughout the month. The minimum hour requirement is weekly and must be met regularly for 18 weeks to earn semester credit.
OJT periods can be scheduled in the morning, afternoon, or a combination of both, depending on the student's schedule and other class requirements. Students working late at night may want to consider morning periods of OJT or a combination of morning and afternoon. OJT periods cannot be in between two on-campus classes. School counselors work with students to schedule OJT periods once they've been deemed eligible.
Students must have reliable transportation to leave campus during OJT periods whether they are scheduled to work that day or not.
